Nintendo may be getting into the eSports market

One market that Nintendo is trying to invest in is eSports and with some of their games, they have a great opportunity to do so.

With the eSports scene growing bigger and bigger thanks to games like League of Legends, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, and Dota 2, every video game company is looking to invest or grow in that area with some of their games.

There’s Call of Duty, which grows every time a new game releases on a annual basis. This past September’s Call of Duty Championship at COD XP 2016 for Black Ops IIIhad the biggest prize pool in the game’s history.

There’s also games like Halo and Gears of War, which are pushing now more than ever to get their games back into the competitive scene. Video games are not only for fun anymore. They’re growing into a global phenomenon and can be a career for many players who dedicate themselves to the craft.

There’s one company that you may have heard of that is looking to invest in the eSports market now. According to PVP Live, Nintendo is actively trying to get their games into the competitive eSports scene.

We got a first hint at this in the reveal trailer for the Nintendo Switch. At the end of the trailer, we saw a variety of competitive eSports teams arriving at an arena. The game that is focused on is Splatoon.

For most casual gamers, Nintendo has always been the go-to console to have fun and chill with their feel good games like Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart. But, they also have quite a few games with a lot of competitive potential.

One that comes to mind is Super Smash Bros. The most popular and competitive game in the series is Melee. More than 15 years later, the fanbase for Melee is bigger than ever.

Each year, tournaments, such as EVO and CEO are hosted at venues with some of the best players from around the world in attendance. Not only is it smart of Nintendo to get behind this, but it’s also smart of the eSports scene to support this as well.

Other than Super Smash Bros., there’s many other games. Splatoon seems like the first game to kickstart this movement and on Tuesday, Nintendo announced a Splatoon Showdown Series, where teams of three can compete in online tournaments.

But like every game, there’s always a community of players who are willing to play the game they love. If they can compete for a chance to win some prize money, they’ll get behind it.

The eSports industry is growing and it’s as big as its ever been right now. Nintendo has the perfect opportunity to invest at this moment.
