LoL Worlds prize pool grows to over $5 million from fan contributions

The total prize pool for the League of Legends 2016 Season World Championship has grown to over $5 million because of sales of the Championship Zed and Championship ward skins, Riot Games announced Friday. With the previously announced split of the pool, the new total pushes the first-place prize to just over $2 million.

The initial prize pool for the event was $2.13 million but Riot announced in September that 25 percent of the sales of the aforementioned skins would directly support the prize pool. The prize pool hit $4 million earlier in October, and continued sales of the skins have now pushed it to a total amount of just over $5 million.

Sales of the two skins will continue to support the prize pool until Nov. 6, at which time the final prize figures will be revealed.
