  • Hi-Rez’s Skillshot Media unveiled a new webpage for Realm Royaleesports.
  • The developer also released information on the game’s first organized tournaments.

Hi-Rez Studios Database-Link-e1521645463907 is already pushing forward some of its plans for making its new battle royale game, Realm Royale, an esport—despite the fact that the game is still in an “alpha” state.

The game developer and its subsidiary Skillshot Media on Tuesday unveiled esports.realmroyale.com, which looks to be a hub for organized Realm Royale tournaments. The developer also released plans for the game’s first few weekly tournaments taking place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Following the trend of recent Fortnite Database-Link-e1521645463907 tournaments, Hi-Rez’s Realm Royale Invitational—which begins on Wednesday at 3:00pm ET—will have players compete in duos while broadcasting live on their personal streams. The Realm Royale Twitch and Mixer accounts will also be streaming the action. Streamers currently being touted as competitors for the twice-weekly event’s $10,000 prize pools include Drew “Lassiz” Boyd, Justin “Chappie” Andrews, and Marcus “Dyrus” Hill.

That tournament will be followed up on Thursday with one hosted by YouTuber Daniel “KEEMSTAR” Keem, who is known for his popular weekly Friday Fornite tournaments. While many of the tournament’s competitors are yet to be determined, Keem’s name has seemingly brought out more noticeable personalities and elicited a sizeable $100,000 prize pool.

Many of the competitors in Wednesday’s tournament will also be playing Thursday, but Keem’s event will also include the likes of Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar and former pro Overwatch player Daniel “dafran” Francesca.

Keem has been public on Twitter about his interest and research in hosting some sort of weekly Realm Royale tournament, making it no surprise that he is the first to take a dive into Realm Royale esports.

With Realm Royale still in its infancy, there remain questions about its viability as an esport. For comparison, Fortnite’s battle royale mode was released on Sept. 26, 2017, but it wasn’t until last month at E3 that Epic Games unveiled its esports strategy, including events on private servers. Hi-Rez has taken the opposite approach by aggressively starting up tournaments while its battle royale game is still in alpha and hosting them on public servers.
